Makoto silently sighed with relief when she ended the subject. Then he watched as she took down a bird. "Great catch!" he congratulated, padding to her until her heard a scuffle in the bushes near them.
He crouched down, tongue swiping the side of his maw. He waited until a squirrel emerged. Because of the distance between them, he wasn't spotted. Makoto crept closer, eyes locked on. He swished his tail once or twice, nostrils flaring, and jumped.
It quickly jerked around and up a tree, causing Makoto to almost crash into the trunk. He snarled and bawled at it, half-emabressed that he missed it. He didn't dare look at Rae after that miss. Makoto gulped, staring at his paws, and glanced around. "Err...I'll look over there," he padded towards a shadier spot where perhaps a mouse or rabbit was hiding.
A breeze flew through her cream-colored mane and her long, red bandana.
"This injury is nothing! Can't you respect me as a nin-ken?! After all, the Great Dane Ben was once blind, and that didn't stop him from helping your father, did it!?" Haru glared at Tokimune.
"But if you want to insist that my injury will make me a burden to carry, why don't you fight me, and see for yourself that the hotspring healed it enough for me to run and battle?!" The Shikoku Inu challenged, crouching down as if she were about to pounce. Her claws sank in the earth and her eyes glimmered with determination. She had to come. This was her mission.

Rae smiled at Makoto and dropped the pheasant, "Thanks!" She said, her tail wagging happily as she watched Makoto stalk the treed squirrel. She walked his muscles bunch under his coat as he launched himself towards it, and missed. She giggled. And then shut her maw to stop the giggling, Little bursts of it escaped her maw a few times. She then stopped and saw how embarassed he was. She stood and walked over to him, Pressing her shoulder lightly to his. "Aw, Don't worry about it! To tell you the truth, I can't catch squirrels either..." she whispered, as if the squirrels would hear her and stop being terrified.
Blue growled at Haru again. "Alright then, If your so /fit/ Then you can come. And I'm sure you won't mind being on prey duty for the rest of us. I mean, It seems you have more energy than all of us put together." He sneered. His neck fur rising at her challenge to Tokimune.

Tokimune growled. "Fine, you can come." "But as Blue said you will be on prey duty." He gave a smirk. He noticed her crouching position. "Were you planning on attacking me?"

Makoto blushed, then let out a chuckle.
"Heh, they're easiest to catch during autumn, when they're all over the place looking for acrorns and stuff," he added, grinning. Padding towards the shadier spot, he spotted a snake. "Do you think anyone in the pack likes eating snakes?" he whispered to her. "Oh well," Makoto crouched, then with a quick snipe of his paw, crushed the head. It wriggled and wriggled, and he craned his neck over to bite the head off.
He spat the head of the decapitated reptile and glanced at Rae. "Have you ever tasted a snake?" He held the limp body in his jaws. He didn't know why a cold-blooded reptile such as this would be lurking within the darkest parts of the forest. Oh well. It didn't matter. At least they had some form of food amongst them so far.
/These two think they're so high and mighty,/ Haru thought, but kept her eager face, /thinking they can just get away with assigning me such a degrading job.../
"Okay! Man, I can't wait!" she exclaimed, doing a half-jump as the rings on her side clanked against the shurkien. "Don't worry, I won't let you down." she promised, tail wagging. Her eyes glowed, but she felt her heart wanting to bite their limbs off.
/Perhaps...This prey duty won't be a waste of time after all.../ she thought. "I'll go hunt right now! Okay?" She whipped around and disappeared in the bushes, continuing to smile and giggle until she was well away from them.
"Ugh," she groaned, almost inaudible.

Rae smiled wider, Inwardly amused at his blush. She wagged her tail again, watching as he killed the snake, she grimaced. "Ugh.. No thanks!" She said with a giggle, Picking up her pheasant and Sitting it down between them, "But I will have mercy upon you and share my wonderfully caught prey with you!" She said with sarcastic regality. She laughed and spit out a few feathers and ran her tongue over her maw.
Blue's fur didn't settle until Haru was out of their sight. "Sheesh.. She's so energetic." He said, half amused and half annoyed. He looked at the rabbit and took a bite of it as he layed down. "Help yerself." He said with a chuckle, running his tongue over his lips to clear the blood before it could stain.

Tokimune's ears perked as she seemed to be happy of her 'job'. When she jumped in the air slightly, he tilted his head like a puppy would. He laughed to himself. Still confused at why she was so energetic. He closed his eyes and shook his head as she ran off. He then turned to Blue again. "Sheesh.. She's so energetic." "Yea, I know." He said with a slight laugh. "Its kinda funny to me."
He watched Blue take a bite of the rabbit. "Help yerself." "Im alright, you eat it."

"Heh, I'd love to. We can give the snake to your brother, maybe." Makoto smiled, gazing into her eyes, then craned down to eat.
She made him feel warm inside, very similar to the feeling he remembered Rin used to give him. But they were just friends, weren't they? Surely the feelings he had for Rin were different than those he had for Rae...Rae was always there for him, and Rin...Rin joined Ashi.
/Was it her job, even as a pup, to get close to me?/ He wondered awkwardly.
Haru sniped at the squirrel.
"Perfect," she smirked at the dead rodent. She opened its bloody mouth, and stuffed a pulp of violet-colored berries into it that she had squished under a leaf with her paws. "Enjoy this..." she whispered, eyes narrowing. She hoped Tokimune hadn't had a full belly yet...Otherwise she'd have to throw out the squirrel. Haru blinked.
/Unless...Another dog eats it...I don't give a fuck which one.../ she thought, looking at the limp squirrel body. /These berries may not be as strong as those spikes the Iga clan uses, but these are enough for you to get terribly sick.../ She sneered at the idea. /And any strong soldier to fall would mean a plus for Ashi. Besides...The herb that cures this is scarcely found in spring./ She gave a small giggle, carefully picked the squirrel up in her jaws, and padded towards the others.

Rae laughed, "Oh yeah! Blue loves snakes." she said sarcastically, mentally amused because he brother was sort of skittish of the reptiles. Rae smiled too, Bending her maw forward to take a bite of the pheasant, Lost in her own thoughts, 'Heh.. What an odd feeling.. I'm more comfortable around him than I sometimes am around Blue..' She froze solid as her muzzle bumped into Makoto's lightly as she wasn't paying attention. She blushed and moved her head to the left and tore a feathered bite from the pheasant. "Eh.. Sorreh.." she apologized swiftly. Smiling inwardly.
Blue laughed and looked up at Tokimune with Skeptisicm. "Tokimune, seriously, Of all of us, your the one whose going to need the food." He said lightly. Nudging the rabbit towards Tokimune. "Eat, or I wont aswell." he said, Looking up at Tokimune with a playful challenge. "I don't want you to have any excuse when I surpass you in strength. 'Oh! Blue ate and I didn't!'" he mocked lightly.

Tokimune laughed again. He was jsut thinking of things. He sighed looking toward Blue again. Tokimune, seriously, Of all of us, your the one whose going to need the food." He said lightly. He watched as he pushed the rabbit to him.
"I will eat whatever Haru brings back. Then we can get going." "You can finish this." He nudged the rabbit back to Blue. His ears perked as he heard the rest of what Blue said.
"Eat, or I wont aswell." "I don't want you to have any excuse when I surpass you in strength. 'Oh! Blue ate and I didn't!'" He smiled seeing his playful look in his face. "We will see." He said with a smerk on his face.

Makoto flushed with embaressment.
"Err...It's okay. It was my fault. I..." he couldn't say anything more. He looked away swiftly and continued to eat. "So...Uhm...Blue likes snakes?" He didn't quite catch the sarcasm in her tone about her brothers and snakes. His fur ruffled as his claws sunk in the earth. He noticed his heart drum, and his ears lay flat.
Makoto was not fearful, or angry. But for some reason, he was very jumpy and shy around her. He felt as if he had swallowed a swarm of butterflies.
"Tokimune-kun!" her voice rang as she bounded towards them. "Look! I caught a squirrel!" she exclaimed, holding it proudly in her mouth as if she were a puppy. "It's hardest to catch them in Spring, that's what my dad said once," she barked happily, dropping the prey in front of him.
"Oh, are you hungry too, Blue? I can try to catch another!" Haru offered, eyes gleaming and tail wagging. She was acting like an eager puppy again, she noted. And it made her sick. /You look so stupid now, you know,/ she scolded herself in her head, /wagging your tail like an idiot./

Rae smiled and seemed to think for a moment before she pressed her muzzle into his again, She shut her eyes. "Relax.." She breathed, Letting her muscles relax, she let whatever she felt fly into her, trying to sort the mixed feelings.
Blue shook his fur and shrugged. "Suit yourself. I just hope I wont have to /carry/ you again." He laughed, again, still playful as he dug into the rabbit, gulping down the bites of meat and soon was finished with the meal. He licked his lips and tossed the carcass into the brush. He knew dead things attracted blowflies, and they weren't fun to be around in the least. He looked up as Haru came charging through. And shook his fur. "Nah. I just ate." He said, shaking his fur and smelling the air, He could smell other dead things, which meant Rae must have had some luck, So they could leave soon.

Tokimune laughed again. "Suit yourself. I just hope I wont have to /carry/ you again." "You wont have to, you might have to carry JinJin though." He said with a smirk. His ears perked as he heard Haru returning. She had caught a squirrel. "Thanks, im starving," He said as he took it and dug in. When he was done he licked the blood from his lips, and tossed the carcass aside as Blue had done.
"It should be about time to start the travel now."

Makoto grinned, and gave Rae a slight nuzzle.
"Heh...Okay."
He cranced his neck again and started to finish up the meal, his tail slightly wagging.
"I hope it was tasty, Tokimune-kun!" she exclaimed, her tail brushing back and forth.
She looked at the sky, to the horizon, with glowing eyes. "Let's go to Hokkaido!" She leapt in the air, as if catching a bird, and landed gracefully, showing how excited she was.
/Heh...Good luck, Iga-Dog.../ she thought coldly.

Rae smiled and she too finished up the meal and Lifted her head, running her tongue over her lips. She looked to her left, And saw just a few meteres away, her brother stood with Tokimune, and Haru. She gave a half smile to Makoto and wagged her tail, "On to Hokkaido then?" She laughed, Shaking her fur and nudging Makoto as she turned and began towards the mountains, Her brother began to follow aswell, and thus Began the journey.
